SMC Career Fair to Showcase 57 Potential Employers Wednesday in Dowagiac

If you’re looking for a new career or an opportunity to connect with employers, 57 companies or organizations will be at Southwestern Michigan College’s Career Fair this week.  The event happens Wednesday, March 20 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mathews Conference Center East in the library building on the Dowagiac campus. The Career Fair is open to the community as well as SMC students.

Participants will meet and interact with companies about career and internship opportunities across a variety of fields, including agriculture, automotive, financial, health care, manufacturing, public service and telecommunications. Just prior, from 9:30-10:15, there will be a health care guest-speaker panel, including a few SMC staff members, to share information about physical therapy, sports medicine and nursing.

Potential job applicants are advised to come dressed to impress and bring plenty of copies of your resume.  SMC Students learned about ‘dressing to impress’ March 12 in the Student Activity Center theatre at the Honors Club’s annual fashion show benefiting community partner Helping Hands of Cass County.

Models demonstrated attire appropriate for job interviews in the first segment, then returned in humorous cautionary what-not-to-wear ensembles, from pajamas and raggedy jeans to muddy boots and an all-red outfit inspired by Lightning McQueen of “Cars.”

Helping Hands, founded in 1984, is coming up on its 40th anniversary.  “Our biggest volunteers have been SMC honors students from the Honors Program. We have never had so many young people who can lift things and do anything we need,”  Helping Hands board member Robin Emenaker said.  “We appreciate being able to donate clothes here. Students will be able to get business-attire items for a dollar, which was the students’ idea.
