Southwestern Michigan College is launching a nationwide search for a new full-time head coach to lead the women’s basketball team starting in the 2025-2026 season.
Current head coach Jay Jenkins informed the college Sunday that he is stepping down to pursue other coaching opportunities. In two seasons, Jenkins posted a 48-15 record.
“I’m grateful for my time at SMC and the opportunities I’ve had here,” Jenkins said in a statement.
Athletic Director Rodell Davis thanked Jenkins for his leadership, which included a district title, two Great Lakes District Tournament appearances, and a trip to the NJCAA national tournament in Missouri. “We wish him all the best,” Davis said.
Jenkins and Davis met with returning players and new recruits Tuesday to share the news and reaffirm the college’s commitment to the program.
In 2023-2024, Jenkins led SMC to a 27-5 finish, a Western Conference title, a district championship, and a national tournament berth. This past season, the Roadrunners went 21-10, including a 13-2 home record and several school records in shooting, defense, and free-throw performance.
