The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra is inviting the community to settle in for an evening built around one of classical music’s most enduring names.
“Mozart’s Greatest Hits” takes the stage Saturday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church in St. Joseph, with doors opening at 6 p.m. A free pre-concert conversation begins at 6:30 p.m.
For longtime concertgoers, it’s a chance to hear familiar, beloved works performed live. For those who may be new to the symphony experience, this program is designed as an inviting entry point — recognizable melodies, vibrant orchestration and the unmistakable energy that made Mozart a standout in his own time and still does today.
Music Director and Conductor Matt Aubin will lead the orchestra and also host the pre-concert talk, offering stories and behind-the-scenes insight into the evening’s selections. Those informal conversations have become a favorite feature of SMSO concerts, helping audiences better understand what they’re about to hear — and why it still matters.
The venue’s warm acoustics and close seating make for an intimate setting. Seating is general admission and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and fill in from the front to the back to keep the flow smooth.
Free parking is available in the church lot, with overflow parking across the street at the Greenwood Center if needed. Guests may also be dropped off at the entrance before parking.
The evening will include a brief intermission following the second piece, with complimentary refreshments available in the Gathering Room — a chance to stretch, visit and take in the atmosphere before the second half begins.
As with most live performances, audience etiquette helps protect the experience. Photos (without flash) are permitted before and after the concert, but devices are expected to be silenced and put away during the performance. Recording is not permitted due to copyright agreements.
The Symphony has built a steady following across Michigan’s Great Southwest by pairing musical excellence with a welcoming, community-centered approach. For many, it’s become a winter tradition — a chance to step away from the daily routine and share something timeless.
Tickets are available in advance at SMSO.org and, if not sold out, at the door. Organizers encourage guests to reserve seats early — and consider bringing a friend or two to share the evening.
