David Keenan used to just work for others in the hearing health industry. That is until he became so deeply frustrated over the sheer volume of people he tested who felt that they simply couldn’t afford to buy the hearing aids necessary to overcome their personal issues, that he elected to launch his own company.
Keenan began Affordable Hearing Group, a limited liability company in South Bend, Indiana. Since opening his first Affordable Hearing Store he has also established a presence in Mishawaka, Elkhart and LaPorte all in Indiana and in Lansing before setting up shop last month in St. Joseph.
Keenan is now doing business in Suite 5 at 815 Main Street in St. Joseph, and contends that his prices are half or less than the price of comparable top quality hearing aids “due to low overhead and tight margins.”
He says, “When I worked for other companies, I was frustrated because more than half of the people I tested, who needed hearing aids, couldn’t afford them.” He says that’s when he decided to start his own business, “determined to lower the price and make them truly affordable.”
Affordable Hearing Stores in the group display prices in their stores and explain pricing over the phone if desired. The brands Affordable Hearing has aligned with include Siemens, Rexton, Unitron and Hansaton.
Keenan says, “Eighty percent of the people who need hearing aids don’t have them, and the number one reason has to be the price.” He adds, “By cutting the price in half, we can sell at least twice as many and still provide excellent local service and even free batteries.” Keenan concludes, “The customer saves thousands and we keep growing.”
