South Bend International Airport will host its seventh annual Aviation Education Day on Saturday, August 23, aiming to highlight careers and opportunities in aviation while engaging the local community.
Organizers say the free event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Studebaker Hangar, located just west of the airport’s main terminal. Attendees will have the chance to tour the airfield, see Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting demonstrations, and view commercial and general aviation aircraft displays. A FedEx Boeing 757 and a SkyWest Airlines aircraft will be among the featured exhibits.
Airport officials said the event is designed to showcase behind-the-scenes aspects of the aviation industry and connect residents with career pathways. Representatives from multiple aviation companies and organizations will be on site for a career fair and exhibition. Scouts will be able to earn an Aviation Merit Badge, and limited Young Eagles introductory flights will be offered to children ages 8 to 17 with parental consent.
South Bend International Airport CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle said the event provides an opportunity for the community to explore a field that is often out of public view. “It’s a fun day that appeals to those young and young at heart,” Daigle said.
Food vendors will be available, and parking in the airport’s long-term lot will be validated. More information can be found at flysbn.com.
