Nature’s Country Cupboard has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Match on Main Program, the City of South Haven Downtown Development Authority announced.
According to the DDA, the funding will help owners Stephanie and Theresa Nowak renovate an underutilized storage space at their 509 Phoenix Street location into a fully accessible wellness center. Planned services include massage therapy, practitioner-grade supplements, aromatherapy products, and free educational wellness programs.
The Match on Main Program received 133 applications this spring requesting more than $3.2 million in funding for small business projects across Michigan. With $1.5 million available, this round was described as highly competitive by state officials.
The DDA said the renovation project aims to foster both economic development and community wellness. Retaining existing businesses and attracting new ones remain city priorities, according to the authority.
The DDA plans to continue pursuing state grant programs to help small businesses expand and succeed in South Haven.
