Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra to Celebrate 75th Anniversary with Gala “Regency Ball”

SMSO Regency Ball 25

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra will mark its 75th anniversary season with a special gala fundraiser on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at The Aria at The Whitcomb, overlooking Lake Bluff Park in downtown St. Joseph.

Themed as a “Regency Ball,” the evening takes inspiration from the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, blending period style with a modern twist. Guests are encouraged to come in costume, with guidance for Regency-era attire available at smso.org, where tickets are also on sale.

The evening begins with a 5:00 p.m. VIP cocktail hour in the Whitcomb gardens, followed by general admission at 6:00 p.m. Highlights include signature cocktails, live music, a silhouettist creating portraits, and even a tongue-in-cheek “gossip columnist” to capture the spirit of the theme. A live auction and formal dancing will round out the festivities.

In a special nod to Bridgerton, longtime Benton Harbor community leader and Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough will serve as the evening’s “Queen,” selecting one guest as the “diamond of the season” to open the dance floor.

The gala also celebrates the community support that helped the Symphony exceed its “Save the Symphony” $150,000 matching campaign last fall, ensuring the orchestra could move forward into its milestone season.

Founded in 1951 as the Twin City Symphonic Society, the SMSO has grown into Southwest Michigan’s oldest professional arts organization. For 75 years it has worked to, in its words, “Transform All Lives Through Music” while providing innovative performances and expanded educational opportunities across the region.

Tickets for the Regency Ball, along with details about the 75th anniversary season, are available at smso.org.
