Southwestern Michigan College will present two free musical performances during February to warm up the wintry weather and chase away seasonal blahs.
For “Legend,” the winter band concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17, in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus, the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo present some of the most legendary and historical works of the genre.
Gustav Holst, Leonard Bernstein and Percy Grainger are representative of the composers of classic wind band literature featured. Guest high school trumpeters contribute a capstone performance culminating the 2023 SMC Trumpet Clinic Day.
The winter choir concert, “Music of the Spheres,” takes place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 with a program of multi-cultural music and songs celebrating the natural world.
Both concerts are presented without charge, although donations to the visual and performing arts program are appreciated.
Tickets for the spring musical, the Tony-winning “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” go on sale in early March. It will be presented March 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 26 at 2 p.m.
