Spicing Up the Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market

Dowagiac DDA Boss Vickie Phillipson is working a couple of new angles on that community’s Saturday market in hopes that you’ll “linger longer,” and enjoy the atmosphere. In a bid to spice up the Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market, Phillipson says it will feature acoustic music each Saturday beginning this weekend.

Phillipson is Program Director for the Dowagiac Downtown Development Authority and as such oversees the market. She tells us that Pop Singer Anne Zebell will appear this month, followed in July and August by John Seculoff.

Zebell is a former Miss Dowagiac and daugther to Claudia and Steve Zebell who own and operate Rosy Tomorrows. Seculoff is a financial advisor for Edward Jones. He too, is a pop performer who also adds in his own original music to the market.

Phillipson says, “We wanted to give families on Saturday a reason to linger a bit longer, while also shopping for fresh-grown produce.” She says she would also like to find a food vendor to grill on site each week.

Anyone interested in booth rental at the market or other opportunities that are being offered this year, should call the DDA at 269-782-8212. The farm & artisan market opens tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7th, at 9am on the lawn of the Dowagiac Area History Museum.  That location provides easy access and visibility to M-62, which is one of the major arteries coming into the city. The market sets up from 9am until 2pm each Wednesday and Saturday through the summer and early fall seasons.

Farmers, backyard growers and local artisans can reserve space at the market, which continues through the second Saturday of October, by contacting Phillipson at (269) 782-8212 or by e-mail at Vphillipson@Dowagiac.org

Space is available at the market for $10, when you provide your own overhead canopy.  Vendors, without a canopy, can rent one from the DDA for an additional $2 per space.
