Anybody who has ever ventured into 314 State Street in downtown St. Joseph knows the truth to Cindy Barinholtz claim that her mission is to “Search the globe for your amusement.” Her State Street Stuff novelty store is a hit with most folks from the moment they walk into the doors of the jam-packed store of silly fun.

During the course of the current pandemic, when the shop has been closed like all other retailers in Michigan, Cindy has been posting a funny cartoon, joke or meme everyday on her Facebook page, to help keep everyone’s spirits up. She searches the globe for that material in order to amuse you as well.

Wanting desperately to do her part in the battle against the coronavirus, Cindy realized that many people were going to need personal protections including face masks, hand sanitizer and other things. So, she proudly proclaims, she has “searched the globe for your protection.”

Cindy tells me, “After an exhaustive search for fun, novelty, high-quality, made in America, effective, face masks, I have finally found them!”

She adds, “There are a ton of companies right now flooding the market with cheap masks that offer little to no protection. Quality masks should be at least two layers thick of tightly woven fabric.” She cautions, “If you can hold it up to the light and see through it, it is totally worthless in protecting you from the virus.”

Cindy also felt that it was very important for her to find a mask that was made in America, to support workers in our own country during these difficult economic times, adding, “Most of the under $15 face masks are made in China.”

She found success, however, and says, “Our masks are three layers of 100-percent cotton. Well stitched. Washable. Soft and comfortable. Made in the USA. And they are reversible for those that just want to wear them as solid black.”

Impacted like every other retailer in the country, Cindy is also just trying to keep her head above water, noting, “I’m just trying to earn enough to pay my rent right now, as I have been unable to get in on any of the economic development grants or loans or anything.”

She has posted information on her State Street Stuff Facebook page regarding the face masks, or you can email her at statestreetstuff@yahoo.com for more information. Here is a direct link to her Facebook page:

She tells me that on the website she will offer various care packages for kids and adults that can be shipped anywhere in the country, and she is also working on private labeling for her own line of novelty hand sanitizers.

She also has an offer for bulk mask purchases for local businesses in need of personal protection equipment on her Facebook page. Those can be drop shipped from the manufacturer direct to the customer. They says they are pretty much wholesale prices, and just just adding a tiny market up to at least try to pay her rent for the month. She also invites the purchase of those for people looking to donate to first responders, frontline workers or others in need of such protection. Look for the post with this image:
