Still no word from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on how long their Benton Harbor offices will be closed.
As we first reported on Friday, the State of Michigan’s Health and Human Services office at 401 Eighth Street in Benton Harbor is currently off limits to the public and employees – reportedly due to an issue of black mold.
An agency spokesperson on Friday confirmed the offices are closed but did not provide additional detail.
Lynn Sutfin with MDHHS said it was “a facility-related issue” that caused the closure. The agency is directing people to call or go online for services they might need from the office. In addition, office hours are available at the Benton Harbor Michigan Works! office at 499 West Main Street in Benton Harbor.
An employee still at the site said most workers have been displaced for at least two weeks. At the offices, a local cleanup and restoration company was on-site Friday, with ventilation machines and other equipment.
