The Michigan State Police post in Niles is planning a couple of events for the public to come and meet its troopers while having some fun.

Post Community Service Trooper Holly Higgs tells us they’re hosting a pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 17. It’s something the post has done for a few years around this time of year just to meet the community.

“We just love being able to have the community come in and talk to us,” Higgs said. “No one calls us on good days for us to come out to their house, so we just want to meet people on good days and give them a little bit of food.”

Higgs says troopers will be serving homemade pancakes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Niles post. Everyone’s invited. But the fun doesn’t end there.

On June 7, the post will host Bike with a Cop at Cassopolis Middle School. Higgs says that will be a chance for anyone to bring out their bicycles and test their skills with the seven members of the post’s bike team.

“We are going to set up some of the bike courses that our bike team has the past to be able to be allowed to ride a bike on duty or for escorting marches. So we’re going to set up some of those to have kids be able to try them out.”

They’ll also have bike races for all ages. Higgs says the event, which has been held for a couple of years, is always fun. Bike with a Cop will be on Sunday, June 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the back parking lot of the school.
