Stevensville mother raising funds to purchase wheelchair-accessible van for daughter

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help purchase a wheelchair-accessible van for a 5-year-old Stevensville girl.

Laura Gomez tells us her daughter, Rosie Adams, has been disabled since birth.

“She has cerebral palsy and epilepsy due to HIE, which is a shortened version of brain damage or a brain injury that happened at birth,” Gomez said. “She’s not able to walk without assistance.”

Gomez says Rosie is a lot like other 5-year-olds in that she gets excited when it’s time to go somewhere. However, the problem is she can’t always go along. That’s because it involves a lot of heavy work and lifting. So, they’re raising funds online and hoping for community support to be able to afford a van.

Gomez says the community has previously come forward to help out by building a wheelchair ramp at the family’s home so Rosie could get in and out of the house.

“I think it’s because people see her and people can relate to a little girl who’s in a wheelchair who needs a ramp or who needs a van to get her to and from places in her wheelchair.”

The crowdfunding campaign is seeking $20,000 to help with the purchase of the van. You can find the campaign right here.
