Sturgis Bank announces key expansion hire with former Market One exec

Sturgis Bank has appointed Zach Morris as Assistant Vice President of Business Development for Van Buren County, the bank announced Tuesday.

According to the announcement, Morris brings more than 20 years of experience supporting business growth across Michigan. He most recently served as Executive Director of Market One, an economic and community development organization serving Cass and Van Buren counties. During his tenure, the organization reported an economic impact of $2.26 million and supported the creation of 1,300 jobs.

Stephanie Timmer, Senior Vice President and Community President for Van Buren County, said Morris will play a key role in the bank’s continued regional expansion.

“We are thrilled that Zach has joined the Sturgis Bank team. We’ve been serving clients in Van Buren County for over 25 years and continue to grow throughout the region. Zach will be instrumental in continuing our expansion,” said Timmer.

Morris said his previous collaboration with the bank made the transition a natural fit, citing the institution’s commitment to community development.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Morris. “In my previous role, I worked closely with the team at Sturgis Bank and witnessed firsthand the expertise, integrity, and dedication they demonstrate in serving their clients each day.”

“Joining the team feels like a natural progression, aligning my experience with a bank that is firmly committed to strengthening the communities it serves.” – Zach Morris, Sturgis Bank

Morris holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Professional Studies from Davenport University and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute. He also earned the Certified Economic Development Finance Professional credential through Grow America.

In addition to his professional role, Morris serves as treasurer of the Michigan Economic Development Association, chairman of the community board of directors for Beacon Dowagiac Hospital, and as a board member of county Brownfield and Land Bank authorities.
