Southwest Michigan’s arts and culture scene continues to spark imaginations with the return of the Creative Connections Challenge. The Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council invites locals and visitors to explore the region’s creative side and earn enticing prizes along the way.
From May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026, participants can take the challenge by visiting galleries, theaters, museums, music venues and joining class experiences that inspire creativity. The more destinations participants explore, the more rewards they earn, including a shot at the Grand Prize: an all-inclusive, one-night hotel getaway for two in Benton Harbor, St. Joseph or Stevensville.
“Some places are naturally inspiring — and Southwest Michigan shines in the arts,” said Marcy Simpson, tourist council executive director. “This challenge is a fun, rewarding way to engage with the artists, actors, musicians and dreamers who call our region home.”
She said it is easy for anyone 18 years or older to participate. It starts by downloading the free Visit Southwest Michigan app from the Apple or Google app stores to collect digital stamps. At each Creative Connections stop, players check in via the app. As they check in, they complete levels and unlock prizes:
-
Level 1 – Visit three destinations: earn a $15 gift certificate.
-
Level 2 – Visit three more destinations (six total): and receive a $30 gift certificate.
-
Bonus Hotel Level – Complete either level 1 or level 2 and stay overnight at a participating hotel: earn a $75 Love Local SWMI gift card redeemable at participating St. Joseph Today member locations.
-
Grand Prize – Complete all three levels and enter to win a one-night all-inclusive hotel package for two, with gift cards for food, drinks and entertainment. One winner will be randomly selected in a drawing.
The challenge must be submitted by April 30, 2026, to redeem prizes and enter the drawing.

“Whether you are a frequent museum-goer, a live music fan or someone who simply wants to try a new art or cooking class, the Creative Connections Challenge lets you experience Southwest Michigan in a whole new way,” said Simpson. “You will be amazed by what you can see and do here.”
