SWMI practice adds orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Josiah Valk

The Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is announcing they’ve added fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Dr. Josiah Valk, D.O., to its medical team, expanding access to advanced sports medicine and shoulder care in the region.

According to the announcement, Dr. Valk specializes in diagnosing and treating shoulder, knee, and hip injuries, including rotator cuff tears, arthritis, ACL and meniscus injuries, and hip labral tears. He said his goal is to provide personalized, evidence-based care that helps patients return to their normal activities.

“My passion is helping people move without pain and return to the moments that matter most,” Valk said in a statement. “Joining the Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine allows me to bring world-class orthopedic care home to the community I love.”

Valk completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at San Diego Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine, where he treated professional, collegiate, and high school athletes. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency and internship at Corewell Health in Farmington Hills and Dearborn after earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University.

Managing Partner Dr. Loafman said Valk’s expertise in complex sports medicine and minimally invasive procedures will strengthen the center’s mission to deliver innovative, patient-focused orthopedic care.

Dr. Valk is now accepting new patients at the center’s offices in St. Joseph and Niles.
