Team Kinexus Sweeps to Another Best Places to Work Award

The team of change agents at Kinexus Group has gotten a pretty good handle on what it takes to be one of the best places to work. Just last week they received their award as one of the 20 Best Places to Work in Michigan’s Great Southwest, and today learned that they have won a place among the 2019 Best Nonprofits To Work For in the nation for the third year in a row.

The Nonprofit Times has partnered with Best Companies Group to identify nonprofit organizations that have excelled in creating quality workplaces for employees.

Todd Gustafson, President & CEO at Kinexus Group says, “We are excited and truly humbled to be recognized nationally for our culture for the third straight year by the prestigious Nonprofit Times,” and adds, “We believe our team is the difference makers that inspire positive economic change one person, one business and one community at a time. We strive to create a culture that uniquely attracts, values and retains talented people. Without them we can’t solve the complex and challenging issues affecting our communities across our region and state.”

This survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the top 50 employers in the nonprofit industry, benefiting the industry’s economy, workforce and businesses.

Nonprofits from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Best Nonprofits To Work For. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated organization’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. That part of the process was worth approximately 25-percent of the total evaluation.

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. That part of the process was worth approximately 75-percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top nonprofits and the final ranking. The Best Companies Group’s Employer Benchmark Report tracked positive responses — “agree somewhat” or “agree strongly” — to 79 questions across eight categories.

Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the ranking. Best Nonprofits scored at least an average of 90-percent in the categories below. To be considered for this award, organizations were evaluated by the following criteria:

  • Leadership and planning
  • Corporate culture and communications
  • Pay and benefits
  • Training, development and resources
  • Overall employee engagement
  • Role satisfaction
  • Work environment
  • Relationship with supervisor

At Kinexus, Gustafson says, “This year is particularly rewarding, being one of two nonprofits from the same region on the list. We’re honored to be recognized along with United Way of Southwest Michigan, a creative partner and regional asset. Congratulations to Anna and her team.”

Public announcement of the entire list and rankings of the annual Best Nonprofits To Work For was published by The Nonprofit Times on April 1, 2019.
