A new restaurant has opened in downtown St. Joseph, while another has closed after only a few months of operation.
The Chef’s House
The Chef’s House, described as a French-inspired bistro menu, begins full operation today, Wednesday thru Sunday, 11am-7pm, inside The Market at 301 Main. It’s owned by Chef Justin Paruszkiewicz.
A glance at his menu board shows an interesting assortment of sandwiches and entrees. Chef’s Smashburger, served with fries or pasta salad, $16. Walleye Burger, $18. Lobster Roll, $28.
Entrees include the Steak Frites (8 oz. sirloin & fries), $25. Walleye Dinner, $24. Lobster Bucatini Pasta, $26. Pekin Duck Ramen, $22.
The Chef’s House utilizes the common seating area in the center of The Market. It appears there is no website nor Facebook page, however there is an Instagram page.
Brookie’s Cafe
Meanwhile, a couple of blocks away on State Street,, Brookie’s Cafe appears tp be a quick casualty of the restaurant wars.
Brookie’s opened in the Spring with an upscale breakfast and lunch menu. We are told by a restaurant industry source that four other commonly owned restaurants, including the Brookie’s in Dowagiac all closed within a short time frame in November.
Efforts to contact Jake’s Restaurant Group for details on the shutdown have been unsuccessful. The Brookie’s location was also the site of the former Kingfisher, a gourmet taco place that failed to gain favor with downtown diners.
