Thornton’s Home Town Cafe reopens, stays in the family

A beloved breakfast spot is keeping it in the family.

Shelley Thornton is the new owner of Thornton’s Home Town Café, 613 Pleasant Street, St. Joseph. She recently purchased the restaurant from her mother, Kathy Thornton, and reopened Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 a.m.

“Back in July when my mom announced that she was ready to retire and close Thornton’s, we were all filled with mixed emotions,” said Shelley Thornton, in a social media post. “Part relief because we thought we would NEVER get out of there … and part sad because we have been a family together for so long, not only our co-workers but also our amazing customers. Needless to say it didn’t take very long to realize how important that family had become to us all.”

Shelley Thornton said she has some big shows to fill, but is thankful for the support of the Thornton’s staff.

“My family is excited to welcome yours back,” she continued, in the post. “We can’t wait to see everyone again soon.”

Thornton’s had been closed since July 31. For more updates, visit the restaurant’s Facebook page.
