Everyone is expected to recover after a water rescue in New Buffalo Monday. The New Buffalo Police Department says several 911 calls came in around 2 p.m. about swimmers in danger in Lake Michigan at New Buffalo Beach near the break wall. Rescuers arrived to find two swimmers still struggling in the water and a third swimmer at the break wall, but in need of help. Emergency responders threw life rings to the two still in the water and got them to safety. All three swimmers were taken by ambulance to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City. They’re expected to recover from minor injuries. Police ask everyone to pay attention to the warning flags at the beach and remember the dangers Lake Michigan can pose to swimmers in rough conditions.
