100 Women Strong will hold its 12th Annual Leaders of Distinction Luncheon on Thursday, December 4, and tickets are available now.

100 Women Strong co-chair Lynn Christiano tells us the group started in 1998 with a goal of raising $100 each from 100 women to create a $10,000 fund to provide aid to women in need. It provides one-time financial assistance for an amount up to $500 for everything from auto repairs to dental care to rent payments.

Christiano says the idea took off right away and stayed strong.

“We have helped hundreds of women with tens of thousands of dollars in assistance,” Christiano said.

Christiano says the Leaders of Distinction Luncheon will honor women who have made a difference in Berrien County. The Leader of Distinction this year is Elizabeth “Liz” Garey, who has dedicated her time and talent in the community for decades with a long list of credits. Christiano told us about a few of them.

She was one of the co-founders of the Curious Kids Museum. She was a committee member for the Krasl Art Center and she is currently on the board of Friends of Berrien County Animal Services. So Liz has been a lifelong volunteer in her community and is always reaching out to see what else she can do to help.”

Christiano says the Keynote Speaker will be Judge Mabel Mayfield, Chief Judge of the Berrien County Trial Court and a long-time dedicated community advocate.

Tickets to the luncheon are $50, and proceeds will all go into the 100 Women Strong Fund. They’re also looking for sponsors.
