We've seen bed racing in the streets of St. Joseph…and companies have taken to the streets in souped up office chairs for NasChair, so how strong are your crew's team-building skills these days? Even more importantly, how strong are your boat-building skills? Whirlpool Corporation and the crew at United Way of Southwest Michigan invite you to sharpen both skills in their first ever "Rock the Boat Cardboard Boat Races" on the last Saturday of August. Fair warning, however — your registration deadline is rapidly approaching next Monday, August 8th.
Anybody and/or his or her brother can get engaged in this fun event. You do not have to be representing a company or organization that has a current relationship with United Way of Southwest Michigan. You do, however, have to build a large enough cardboard boat to climb aboard and paddle or sail your way to victory on race day at The Inn at Harbor Shores.
Registration is a two step process that is clearly spelled out on the United Way's website, linked below. You can also address questions regarding the boat race sign up by calling Kelly Prillwitz at 269-923-2658, or by emailing her at kelly_k_prillwitz@whirlpool.com.
Cardboard for your project can be obtained at 2000 1st Street in Riverside.
For your convenience, pdf files of the Rules & Boat Building Guidelines, the Rock the Boat flyer, and the Waiver form are all available at the United Way website. Race Day is Saturday, August 27th with Check-In at 8am…a Safety Briefing at 9am and the Races begin at 10am.
Here is the link for all of the details, rules, guidelines, and virtually everything else you'll need to know to Rock the Boat! Good luck…and, by the way, I will be one of the judges for this great event…so make it good if you want to win!
