Tragedy struck this morning at a home construction site in Casco Township of Allegan County when a contractor was accidentally buried when a trench collapsed.
South Haven Area Emergency Services units were dispatched around 9:30am this morning to the construction site on Lakeshore Drive where a home building project has been underway.
Authorities say that the worker was accidentally buried when the trench created by earth movers on the site collapsed and he had to be dug out. The man, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the industrial accident. No further information on the incident is available at this time, however the case remains under investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s Deputies say that at the time of the collapse the worker was working on underground utilities at a new construction site approximately 12 feet below the surface.
