UFCU Flood Relief Tally Tops $7,300

When United Federal Credit Union announced disaster relief efforts for families impacted by the late winter floods around Michigan’s Great Southwest, they originally pledged immediate support of $5,000 for the United Way of Southwest Michigan. At the same time, they also offered the public the chance to join the effort by pledging to match donations made up until the end of March. We’re just learning now that those efforts produced a total donation to the Berrien Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund of $7,300.

The Disaster Relief Fund helps with the recovery needs of families impacted by flooding in Michigan, and United Way President Anna Murphy praised United Federal’s generosity, saying, “United Federal Credit Union proves time and time again why they are so committed to their community. The money they raised for the Disaster Relief Fund, including the generous match, will go a long way in helping families recover from the recent floods.” Murphy reminds us, too, that “So many of their employees and members stepped up to help,” adding, “We can’t thank them enough.”

Additionally, United Federal Credit Union immediately offered its Members affected by the flooding in Berrien and Cass counties special financial relief programs including among other benefits, the opportunity to skip certain loan payments, no penalty withdrawals on share certificates, and a Signature Loan with no payments for 90-days. Those benefits were also in place until the end of March 2018.

United Federal’s President & CEO Terry O’Rourke says, “I want to send a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our members, employees, and neighbors who took us up on our offer to match donations that help flood victims. The generous spirit and dedication to the community are values that United is proud to share with the people of Berrien County.”
