United Federal Credit Union Acquires Truity Credit Union Branch in Springdale, Arkansas

The team at United Federal Credit Union is expanding its presence in Northwest Arkansas through the acquisition of a single branch from Truity Credit Union in Springdale, Arkansas.

As part of the agreement announced this morning, United will take over branch operations on April 5, 2021—retaining all employees and providing membership opportunity for Truity’s approximately 6,000 Arkansas members.

Meanwhile, Truity will continue to operate its remaining branches in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

This marks United’s second strategic partnership announcement in recent months. As reported here back in October of 2020, United and St. Joseph-based Edgewater Bank announced plans to transition the bank’s five Southwest Michigan locations into credit union branches. Pending regulatory and shareholder approvals, that transition is expected to be complete later this year.

In both cases, United says its reputation for outstanding member service, employee engagement, and commitment to regional growth and development, made it a viable choice for the partner financial institution.

In Arkansas, Truity President/CEO Dennis Halpin says, “We wanted to find a partner that we trusted and felt comfortable with to continue our relationship-based service in Springdale,” and adds, “The team at United checks all the boxes. Not only do they live the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ they have a proven record of growth and involvement in the communities they serve. We feel confident that our members and employees will thrive under United’s leadership.”

While United has had a presence in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area for decades, it began expansion into Northwest Arkansas in 2015 and opened two full-service branches there in 2019.

Terry O’Rourke, United’s President/CEO, says, “This announcement is not only an excellent opportunity for our Arkansas team to welcome new members and employees to United, it’s also exciting news for our entire membership,” adding, “The progress we’ve made as an organization—including a new headquarters in St. Joseph, investment in our own Southwest Michigan community through the Edgewater acquisition, and this opportunity to grow in Arkansas—is a testament to the health of the credit union and the dedication our team has to creating positive member interactions every day. The strength of our membership allows us to offer outstanding products and services, while our regional leaders and team help keep decisions, relationships, and community impact local.”

United Federal Credit Union has served its members since 1949 by helping them to build a sound financial future, and consists of more than 177,000 member/owners worldwide, managing assets in excess of $3.3 billion. Its corporate offices and main branch are in St. Joseph, with additional branches elsewhere in Michigan as well as in Arkansas, Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina, and Ohio.
