As they say in the entertainment industry, the LMC Mendel Center has been “dark” a few weeks, undergoing some much needed updates after several decades of activity. Here is an update on the maintenance and improvements, from LMC:
Even though public events at the Mendel Center are on hiatus for the summer, the building has been anything but quiet while two building update projects have quickly moved forward. |
In June, workers completed the Jenkins Theatre North and South Lobby window project. The month-long project replaced decades-old windows that had exceeded their useful life span and were beginning to fail. The new windows will improve natural lighting in the spaces surrounding Jenkins Theatre and provide better energy efficiency. |

Hanson Theatre Lobby & Classroom Renovation |

The second Mendel Center construction project currently underway will modernize the Hanson Theatre lobby, west walkway, The Sizer Band & Choir Rehearsal Studio, and Visual & Performing Arts faculty and staff offices. This is the first major renovation of this portion of the building since it opened. The Hanson Theatre lobby (pictured above) will be reconfigured to better serve audiences attending performances. Updates to the rehearsal studio will enhance the learning environment for performing arts students. Additionally, outdated mechanical systems are being replaced along with lighting and finishes. Work is expected to be complete in late August, just in time for the start of Fall classes. The Mendel will share some before and after photos with you when the project is complete. |
