A free ‘shopper’ publication that has been distributed in Van Buren County for decades is ringing down the curtain. Owner Pam Harris announced her retirement, and with that, the end to the Van Buren Reminder. The print piece has been a mainstay for small businesses across Van Buren County.
In the final issue Harris thanked her hundreds of customers and thousands of readers:
“The Van Buren County Advertiser (in Gobles) was proudlypurchased from Harold Burleson in 1991. Then I purchasedthe Van Buren Reminder January 5th, 2014 from Rick Owen, and from that moment forward, it became far more than justa business. It became a place of connection, storytelling, trust, and lifelong relationships. What started as a commitment toserve the communities grew into decades of sharedmilestones, conversations, laughter, challenges, and successes.Over the last 34 years, I have had the privilege of work-ing with incredible people – not just customers, but lastingfriends. Friendships were built across counters, over phonecalls, through deadlines, celebrations, and even difficult timesThose relationships are what truly defined the Van BurenReminder. The loyalty, support, and kindness shown to usthrough the years is something I will always carry with me.”
Van Buren Reminder longtime advertiser Walt Sicard spoke for Harris’s customers when he saluted her in his ad in the final issue:
” Van Buren Reminder has been a key partner for us and our business dating back to our beginning in 1995 and the days of Rick & Darlene Owen.
Pam and the others who have worked so hard to put out this trusted weekly shopping guide have been a blessing to us and to you their loyal readers who have also been our most valued customers.”
The Reminder gave particular focus to the high school sports teams in Bloomingdale, Gobles, Bangor and Covert with special pages devoted to those communities.
