The Berrien County Veterans Services Office is opening a new location in Niles.

Berrien County Veterans Services Director Maureen Adams tells us she’s wanted to serve south Berrien County veterans better, and then an opportunity arose.

“As anybody that’s driven Berrien County knows, it’s quite a long, narrow county, a pretty good stretch from South County to North County,” Adams said. “We were fortunate to have a seasoned service officer move back to Michigan from Alaska, and we thought it would be a really good add to our services to have South County more accessible for veterans.”

Adams says she hears from plenty of veterans around Niles, Three Oaks, and Buchanan who can’t always make the trip to St. Joseph.

“Prior to, we were either doing things by mail or they had to come up to St. Joe to meet with a service officer.”

The new Niles office will be located in the north end of the Niles Courthouse. Adams says you don’t need to go through security to get in.

The office officially opens Monday and will operate Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Wednesdays, it’ll be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Adams says any veteran can stop by and get help with benefits.
