Village Vet brings natural medicine to Stevensville

Dr. Dawn Tulson aims to revive the institution of the village natural healer, making holistic medicine available to pets in Stevensville.

Tulson’s Village Vet clinic will be inaugurated with an open house 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14 at her newly fitted location 5733 St. Joseph Ave, Stevensville, MI.

The grand opening event will offer tours of the new facility, and the veterinary doctor will field questions about her integrative medicine services including acupuncture, veterinary spinal manipulation, herbal medicine and cold laser therapy.

“People are making alternative medicine choices for themselves more and more these days, so when they realize it’s an option for their pets too, they’re usually pretty open to it,” Tulson said.

“It’s been very popular in bigger cities and other regions of the country for 20-30 years now, so I’m excited to bring a new approach to this area.”

Dr. Tulson employs her methods as a standalone practice, in conjunction with traditional treatments, as well as a secondary option when patients stop responding to traditional treatment.

“What we do is not a quick fix, and not everything gets fixed all the time, but sometimes we do get a better response with this kind of treatment,” Tulson said.

“I’ve had cases where traditional medicine worked well for a time, then suddenly a dog or cat is no longer responding to treatment, and the owners may not be ready to say goodbye yet.”

“Or in other cases I’ve done acupuncture on a patient after an injury, and they’ve gotten back to walking in 24-48 hours instead of a week. I just hope to provide a good quality of life and good balance.”

Tulson has been a resident of southwest Michigan for 15 years, working at Mattawan Veterinary Hospital and Nickerson Animal Health Center before launching Village Vet in Stevensville.
