Welcoming a Shoreham Start-Up

They may be "sleepless in Seattle," but thanks to a new start-up business along the shoreline, they'll soon by "soothed in Shoreham." Eva Borcherding sliced a bright teal ribbon today to launch her new massage studio at 3665 S. Lakeshore Drive in Unit #5 of the small business complex there. Eva's Ashiatsu Massage, LLC. is a new Ashiatsu & Thai massage studio welcomed by the Village of Shoreham in ceremonies at noon.

Eva is a licensed massage therapist who has been practicing her art for half a dozen years now. She graduated in 2009 from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy at the Phoenix Campus. She is also a graduate of Illinois State University where she earned her bachelors degree in education. Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce, Cornerstone Alliance and Cornerstone's Small Business Services team helped stage the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony today. Eva's new business will feature deep tissue and medical massage as well as her two new massage modalities of Ashiatsu and Thai massage.

Ashiatsu practice is a barefoot massage started centuries ago on the Asian continent. "Ashi" means foot, and "atsu" means pressure. In that practice, the therapist walks on the client's back, using bars and other props for support in order to vary the pressure and weight being applied. Thai massage is form of assisted yoga performed by the massage therapist.

Eva feels that her massage therapy does make a difference to her clientele, saying, "At the end of the day, I am very satisfied knowing that I have helped reduce someone's pain and inflammation, and that I have increased someone's range of motion." She tells us, "Massage lengthens tissue, and I am helping my clients to feel better." She has been called by some, St. Joseph's best kept secret, but the secret is out now that she has a formal studio to practice from.

If you'd like to feel better too, and be soothed in Shoreham, you can arrange for an appointment by calling 269-930-0246. Eva's Ashiatsu Massage is open Mondays through Fridays and Sundays from 10am until 6pm.

The team at Cornerstone Alliance Small Business Services and the Women's Business Center worked with Ms. Borcherding on business planning and financing as well as by providing a microloan to help with her start up costs.
