Whirlpool Takes Energy Star Partner of the Year for 2017

Here’s hoping that when dramatic renovations were made last year at Whirlpool Corporation’s world headquarters campus they saved an entire wing to house their Energy Star awards. Already proud owners of more such awards than any other appliance maker in the world, Whirlpool’s latest honor is their win as 2017 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for Sustained Excellence from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington D.C.

The Benton Harbor-base appliance giant received the award today for manufacturing energy-efficient kitchen and laundry appliances that make outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ron Vogelwede is Global Sustainability Director for Whirlpool. He says, “The 2017 award reflects our many products that continue to demonstrate efficient energy performance.” He adds, “Whirlpool Corporation has a 47-year commitment to sustainability and a long-standing history of balancing energy efficiency with consumer needs. We are proud of recognitions like these and remain focused on delivering sustainable and innovative solutions.”

This year’s recognition is the 26th Energy Star award that Whirlpool Corporation has won in the United States and the 39th Energy Star award across the United States and Canada, more than any other appliance manufacturer.

Joe Liotine is President of North America for Whirlpool. He says, “Across our nine U.S. manufacturing operations, and in our global technology and design centers in Michigan, our employees are dedicated to building home appliance products that save energy and water without compromising performance.” He points out that, “Of the products we make, more than 80-percent of the products we sell in the United States are assembled in the United States.”

Whirlpool Corporation was recognized this year specifically for introducing two new models of heat pump dryers, its continued training activities with employees and retailers about Energy Star and energy efficiency, its collaborative social media promotions with Energy Star, and its increased focus on sustainability initiatives overall.

Whirlpool Corporation is the number one major appliance manufacturer in the world, with approximately $21 billion in annual sales, 93,000 employees and 70 manufacturing and technology research centers throughout the world in 2016.
