Winter Storm Warning Extended Again — Now In Effect Until 10PM Tonight

The original plan had the Winter Storm Warning ending at 1pm today. So much for that plan. It’s not going to stop until nearly the end of the day. The National Weather Service office in Northwest Indiana says the misery will continue a bit longer for most of Berrien County today. They have extended the current Winter Storm Warning to run now until 10 o’clock tonight with the Wind Chill Warning still due to run its course through 2pm tomorrow afternoon.

Here’s what the NWS office put out at noon today:

WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST THIS EVENING, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2019. WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EST THURSDAY

Snow, blowing snow, and dangerously cold wind chills, expected, with additional snow accumulations of up to two inches.

Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Wind chills as low as 45 below zero

The northern half of Berrien county, including the Benton Harbor area, will see the heavier lake effect snow shower activity and visibilities reduced to less than a quarter of a mile at times.

Southeastern portions of the county will see little, if any, additional snow accumulation.

For the Winter Storm Warning, until 10 PM EST this evening.

For the Wind Chill Warning, until 2 PM EST Thursday.

Plan on slippery road conditions.

Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute.

The   dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values.

Frostbite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.
