There should be plenty to think about next month when local Girl Scouts take time out to recognize and celebrate World Thinking Day 2017. With multiple countries due to be represented in the grand affair at St. Joseph Public High School, and immigration and the roles of refugees clearly on the minds of millions, the annual event will likely take on special significance this year.
Organizer Elizabeth Vogelwede tells me that Girl Scouts from across the region will be prepared to take one another and visitors alike on a trip around the world without ever leaving the building on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2521 Stadium Drive in St. Joseph.
In observance of World Thinking Day, which is recognized every year on Februrary 22nd, the Girl Scouts have been busy learning about Girl Guiding & Scouting around the world. The theme of World Thinking Day this year is Grow Girl Scouting & Girl Guiding.
Countries represented at the February 25th event in St. Joseph include:
- Australia
- Canada
- Egypt
- Guyana
- India
- Italy
- Jamaica
- Korea
- Madagascar
- Uganda
- Ukraine
- and others…
Visitors to each international booth will be able to taste authentic foods, drinks, and to shop a broad array of craft items — all handmade by local Girl Scouts — with all items priced at $1 or less for each item.
Girl Scouts will establish their booths for the event from 8:30am until 11:30am that morning, following promptly at 11:30am by the Opening Ceremonies including presentation of both the United States flag and the Girl Scout flag…welcoming ceremonies…the Pledge of Allegiance and Girl Scout Promise…and pin presentations.
The International booths will be open for two hours to visitors from noon until 2pm. The price of admission is $1 per plate setting at the door for families and guests, along with a “Birthday in a Bag” donation item of cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, candles, or cake plates & napkins.
All profits generated by World Thinking Day will be donated to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund to help support Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding around the world.
