Please provide an example of when you feel you were at your very best in taking action on the job or in your role.
I’m usually at my best when things don’t go as planned. Weddings especially have a way of testing every detail; weather, timing, emotions. I’m proud of how I can stay calm, find quick solutions, and keep everyone feeling taken care of. There’s nothing better than hearing from a couple afterward that I made the day feel effortless for them, even when I was juggling a dozen behind-the-scenes issues.
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened on your road to success?
The funniest thing might be how often I was underestimated. I just kept working hard, and nothing’s more satisfying than letting success be the punchline.
Who most inspires your personal drive for success every day?
My drive comes from my three daughters and my granddaughter. I spent years as a stay-at-home mom, and now it’s important to me that they see what’s possible, that women can have families, careers, and dreams, and succeed in all of them.
What is your best advice to women in Southwest Michigan looking to succeed, as you have, in business?
Don’t underestimate yourself, and don’t be afraid to take up space. Success isn’t about having it all figured out, it’s about showing up, learning as you go, and not letting anyone make you feel small for being ambitious.
What does your selection to the ranks of the Bold Women of Business from Moody on the Market mean to you?
It’s an honor to be recognized among so many strong, talented women who are making an impact in our community. It reminds me how far I’ve come and motivates me to keep pushing forward, not just for myself, but for the women coming up behind me.
