A giveback dinner to benefit the Citadel Dance and Music Center will be held this Saturday at the Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor.

Citadel Music Director Susan Dietrich-Reed tells us the dinner will support the Citadel’s ongoing capital campaign, which is seeking $600,000 over five years to purchase the 91 Hinkley Street Building, home of the Citadel dance program and Oak Room.

“The previous owners, Mike and Sarah Nadolski, offered us the option first to purchase the 91 Hinkley Building on a land contract so we could secure the future of the dance program,” Dietrich-Reed said.

Dietrich-Reed says the money raised through the campaign would also pay for improvements at 91 Hinkley. In its first year, the campaign raised $230,000.

Second year, you know, it’s always a little slower. First year, when you kick off a campaign, everything goes great. Money rolls in. But it’s a little harder in the successive years. So, Mason Jar is helping us to, again, get the word out and promote that.”

The giveback dinner this Saturday at the Mason Jar will run from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be $70 per person with 70% of the proceeds going to the Citadel campaign. The dinner is open to the public and will feature four entree options, a cash bar, and music from a live string quartet.

Everyone’s invited to stop in and help the Citadel secure a permanent home for its dance program.
