Michigan State Police are recruiting in Southwest Michigan, and they’re planning a one-stop Employment Day hiring event for later this month.
MSP Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson tells us the event will be held at Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Texas Township Campus on February 21, giving anyone interested a chance to apply for the department’s trooper, motor carrier officer, and lateral entry recruit schools that all begin in July.
State police could use some help.
“There’s a shortage across the state, not just Southwest Michigan,” Robinson said. “We are trying to increase the numbers of our ranks across the state in which we’ve been operating below our maximum capacity for a number of years for various reasons.”
Robinson says recruitment staff will be on site at Employment Day, ready to help applicants begin the road to a new career.
“There will be the baseline fitness test, which will basically run them through the agility test to see if they are physically capable of performing the jobs of a trooper. The written exam will be administered, as well as a hiring interview right on site.”
Robinson says good candidates for the Michigan State Police include anyone who wants to give back to their community and fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. A background in law enforcement isn’t required to get started.
Those planning to attend the Employment Day are asked to RSVP online. You can do so right here.
