The Bridgman Open Air Market will reopen for the season this Sunday, Mother’s Day.

Market secretary Chelsea Hull tells us the weekly market has been held in the parking lot behind United Federal Credit Union at Lake Street and Red Arrow Highway for about ten years now, attracting hundreds of people each day. There will be more than 30 vendors on hand this year.

“We are an artisan market,” Hull said. “All local and handmade items. We do have some farmers, they’re local. So you can find anything from homemade cookies, you’ll find homemade candles, crafted items, crocheted items, woodworking, leather, we’ll have fresh meat, and then we’ll have fresh produce.”

Hull says the market has a lot of repeat customers because it’s such a great atmosphere in which to mingle.

Our vendors really, truly try to make it a family-friendly atmosphere. There’s always someone laughing or giggling. We’re running around. You’ll see the board members out and about trying to greet everybody.”

The vendors include fan favorites Lynne and Gary’s Acres, Peacock Rocks, The Cookie Dealer, CH Designs, Cute Crochets, Rebecca’s Ceramics, and Blue Creek Leather, among many others. Animal Aid of Southwestern Michigan will also be there to adopt out some furry friends, and three food trucks have signed on for the year.

The Bridgman Open Air Market will be held each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 12. Hall notes they’ll also hold special events at the market throughout the summer, including Kids Day in July and a Halloween celebration in October.
