The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has completed its annual report for 2025, highlighting the things it did throughout the year to serve the community.
Sheriff Chuck Heit presented the latest report to the county board of commissioners Thursday, saying it will soon be posted to the department’s website. He told us the 70-page covers a wide variety of sheriff operations.
“It’s just an opportunity to share the great work that the men and women at sheriff’s office are doing,” Heit said. “We’ve got the three divisions — the enforcement division, the jail division, and emergency management — and within that, some special teams. There’s a lot of photos. People like to see what’s going on, and it’s just a great opportunity to show the great work that’s being done at the sheriff’s office.”
The report provides stats about sheriff’s department divisions — everything from road patrol to animal control.
“A lot of people, some like the stats. In a lot of those categories, we’ve got some different stats that we have. Like I said, there’s a lot of photos and some of the work being done.”
For example, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department road patrol in 2025 issued more than 4,100 citations and investigated more than 32,000 complaints. The report also notes the department investigated 35 fatal or serious injury crashes, seven of which involved pedestrians. Narcotics operations involving the Southwest Enforcement Team seized nearly five pounds of crack, more than 17 pounds of powder cocaine, and more than 25 pounds of meth.
The report also covers department training and charitable efforts throughout the community.
The report will be viewable here once it’s posted by the sheriff’s department.
