Families, veterans and anyone looking for a meaningful start to the Memorial Day weekend will have a chance to gather in downtown St. Joseph on Friday for the annual Memorial Day Parade organized by St. Joe Today.
The parade steps off at noon Friday, May 22, beginning at Lake Boulevard and Park Street before heading along Lake Boulevard to the John E.N. Howard Bandshell, where a short patriotic program and observance will follow. Organizers say the event is designed to honor veterans and remember those who gave their lives in military service.
The annual parade has become a longstanding tradition in St. Joseph, dating back to 1982. Veterans and active-duty military personnel are especially encouraged to participate.
For families, the route along Lake Boulevard offers easy viewing and a chance for children to experience a traditional Memorial Day observance in the heart of the community along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
With favorable weather expected and holiday visitors already arriving in the area, organizers anticipate a strong turnout.
