Whirlpool stock price inched upward this week on Wall Street

WHR sign

Whirlpool Corporation’s stuggling stock price made some progress this week.  WHR closed at $42.67 Friday, after reaching nearly $43 during the trading session.

Last week, Whirlpool had closed as low as $38.38 after negative analyst reaction to its Q1 Conference Call and speculation the company might be a candidate for sale or takeover due to the low price.  There have been no credible reports of such activity during this past week.

Whirlpool generated considerable local social media reaction when it confirmed this week it was selling  one of its corporate jets and scaling back its aviation and travel operation at Benton Harbor airport.  However, the move was not seen as significant in the larger financial complexion of the company.  Rather, it was seen as added symbolism that all spending is under close scrutiny at the appliance giant.
