The Berrien County Health Department today reports, “We are reporting another death, bringing our total number of deaths from confirmed cases to 5. The individual who passed was an older male with underlying health conditions.” They also ask you, “Did you know: each one of the individuals who has tested positive for COVID-19 has been contacted by our team to understand who they have been in close contact with? Then, we call all of those close contacts to explain their exposure risk to the positive individual and ask them to quarantine for 14 days to monitor for symptoms. This process, called contact tracing, is one of the ways that we can stop the spread of illness in its tracks. Our team has called more than 1,500 people since our first positive case was reported on March 21st.”
The Berrien County total confirmed cumulative case count has risen to 105, that’s just one new case in the past 24 hours, but the death toll also rose by one. The Health Department reports that 55 of those cases are now labeled as recovered in Berrien County. Meanwhile, Van Buren County has added one new positive for a total of 22, while Cass County has remained unchanged for a total of 11 positive cases, the same count for several days running. Berrien County has logged 5 deaths to date, with Cass and Van Buren still reporting one death each thus far in the pandemic.
Across Michigan, the tally stands at 25,635 statewide, up by 997 from yesterday, with 1,602 deaths from the virus, an increase of 115 from Sunday.
