Box Factory Issues ‘Call For Artists’ in Regional Michiana Art Competition

The Box Factory for the Arts has announced a “Call for Artists” for the Michiana Annual Art Competition (MAAC). The MAAC in the Box is a regional juried art exhibition. The deadline for submissions is April 7, 2022. Entry guidelines are available on the Box Factory website – www.boxfactoryforthearts.org/maac.

All work must be original in concept and execution, created in the last two years, and not been completed under instruction or previously exhibited at the Box Factory for the Arts. The entry fee is $25 for one piece and $40 for two pieces of artwork.

Artists should enter the category according to the primary medium of their work. This year’s categories include:

·       Photography: Black and White

·       Photography: Color

·       Painting: Oil

·       Painting: Water media- Acrylic/Watercolor/Gouache

·       Fiber Arts: Fabric/Fiber/Basketry

·       Sculpture/Glass/Ceramics

·       Drawing: Pastels/Pencils/Ink (includes printmaking)

·        2022 Pop-Up Category: Assemblages/Collages

Accepted artwork will be announced online on April 22nd on the Box Factory website. The exhibit will run from May 13 – July 3rd.  Best of show will be awarded $1,000 and the winner of each category will receive $200.

Thea Grigsby will judge the MAAC. Grigsby has managed museums and galleries, including the South Haven Center for the Arts, the Holland Museum and the Hearst Art Gallery in California. She has published catalogues on Rembrandt etchings and on 19th Century Dutch Art and has consulted for major private collectors. Prior to her non-profit work, she had a 20-year career in graphic design developing creative graphic software in Silicon Valley.
