Denise Bohn Award for Pinktober

On the eve of the #DeniseBohnStrong Golf Tournament this weekend comes word of the inaugural Denise Bohn Award, honoring the work of our dear friend and colleague for her never-ending dedication to her role as a breast cancer activist. A Pinktober Sock-Hop Charity Gala will raise money for the Southwest Michigan community of Susan G. Komen.

The new Pinktober event comes from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and their Four Winds Casino at New Buffalo. It will be a 1950s themed affair slated for 7pm on Friday, September 30th at the Four Winds New Buffalo's Silver Creek Event Center in Harbor Country. Tickets will include admission into the event, a pair of pink socks, an open bar, and food provided by the Hard Rock Cafe at Four Winds. Live music will be provided for the Sock Hop.

The evening's highlight will showcase the presentation of the first ever Denise Bohn Award, honoring the memory of our friend who anchored the digital broadcast of The WSJM Week in Review, and co-hosted the "Denise & Jonny Show" weekday mornings on 98.3 The Coast radio. Additionally, Denise was the development director for the Southwest Michigan community of Susan G. Komen and tirelessly worked as a partner with Hard Rock Cafe Four Winds on its annual Pinktober Concert Series. Her life was tragically cut short in April, leaving her remarkable legacy.

Tickets can be purchased beginning tomorrow, Friday, August 5 at 11am, exclusively through the Ticketmaster website, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling (800)745-3000. Ticket prices for the event start at $125 plus applicable fees, with a portion of the ticket sales going to the Southwest Michigan community of Susan G. Komen. All proceeds from the silent and live auction also go to Susan G. Komen. Hotel packages are also available for the night of the Pinktober Sock-Hop that includes a one night hotel stay on Friday, September 30 and admission into the event. Hotel packages, which include two tickets to the event, are available for $368 and must be bought through Ticketmaster.
