Fandom Fest to bring authentic pop con experience to southwest Mich. April 8

Calling all Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts, comic book fans and fantasy cosplayers in southwest Michigan.

After a COVID-induced pause, Fandom Fest is returning to The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College next Saturday, April 8. The event will take place in the Grand Upton Hall from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sponsored by local public libraries and inspired by larger events like the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo and Pop Con, the event will feature guest speakers, panels, cosplay contests, a film screening, dungeons and dragons sessions, new board game testing, video games, vendors, and more.

“We really strive to bring the true and authentic convention experience to southwest Michigan for free, so that people can experience it without any barriers,” said Benton Harbor Public Library Director Kat Boyer. “The earlier part of the day is the day is more for the kids – there’s nothing inappropriate for kids, but it’s mostly for adults like a true, honest convention.”

The Monster of Mossfall D&D sessions will be at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with additional shorter D&D sessions throughout the day. From 1 p.m to 3 p.m., attendees will be able to test new original games.

Sponsoring libraries include those in Benton Harbor, Watervliet, St. Joseph, Lincoln Township,
Galien Township, Dowagiac, Coloma, Bridgman and Berrien Springs.

There is no charge to attend, but those planning on attending are asked to register at Eventbrite. For more information, visit the Fandom Fest Facebook page.
