May is officially Michigan Wine Month, and the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail is inviting wine lovers to explore the wineries, vineyards and scenic beauty that make Southwest Michigan one of the premier wine destinations in the Midwest.

The Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail is a collaboration of quality-focused wineries located throughout the Lake Michigan Shore American Viticultural Area (AVA), stretching from the lakeshore communities of New Buffalo, St. Joseph and South Haven to inland destinations including Coloma and Kalamazoo. The region is home to a unique lake-effect climate that helps produce award-winning wines from locally grown grapes.

Throughout Michigan Wine Month, visitors are invited to discover the diverse wineries along the trail, enjoy tastings, attend special events and experience the hospitality and craftsmanship that define Michigan wine country. May is packed with opportunities to celebrate at wineries across the trail, including live music performances, wine pairing dinners, food truck events, seasonal releases and special promotions throughout the month.

“Michigan Wine Month is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible wineries, growers and winemakers that make our region so special,” said Claire Kliss, president of the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. “There’s so much happening throughout May and we invite people to spend time exploring the trail, supporting local businesses and discovering the exceptional wines being produced right here in Southwest Michigan.”

The Lake Michigan Shore AVA benefits from the moderating effects of Lake Michigan, creating an ideal climate for grape growing and helping establish the region as one of Michigan’s premier wine destinations. Along the trail, visitors can explore a diverse collection of wineries — from boutique family-owned vineyards to expansive estate wineries — each offering its own unique atmosphere and wine portfolio.

Guests can sip everything from bold reds like Cabernet Franc and earthy Syrah to approachable red blends and nostalgic Concord wines. White wine lovers will find an equally impressive selection, including crisp Pinot Grigio, buttery oaked Chardonnay, and delicately sweet Riesling and Moscato. Rosés and sparkling wines add even more variety, offering refreshing, celebratory options perfect for every palate and season.
