Major House Move Will Disrupt Traffic from Mattawan to Paw Paw Thursday

If your travels ordinarily take you through Main Street in Mattawan or near the I-94 overpass on Red Arrow Highway at Mattawan and into Paw Paw, here’s an important heads up — even if you only plan to be there sometime on Thursday. The “Wide Load Ahead” signs will be out in force and a house may well block your path.

Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that a house move will occur this Thursday, February 21st, 2019 that will impact traffic flow along North Main Street in the Village of Mattawan, 24TH  Street North of the Village of Mattawan, and Red Arrow Highway from 24TH  into and through the Village of Paw Paw.

The move will begin at 9:00am in Mattawan and is expected to reach the Eastern Village Limit of Paw Paw around 10:00 or 11:00am depending upon weather and road conditions.

Due to the size of the house, the entire roadway, including both lanes of traffic, will be inaccessible to all other traffic.

To avoid the inevitable traffic congestion and travel time delays, it is suggested that you plan for an alternative route during the time of the move.

The house move will begin on Main Street in Mattawan, just south of the Shell station, and the route will be north on Main Street, over the Interstate 94 overpass to Red Arrow Highway. The house will then advance westward on Red Arrow Highway into the Village of Paw Paw, and finally north on Hazen Street. The destination is just north of the Village of Paw Paw on County Road 665.

Lieutenant Jim Charon will be in charge of the move from the public safety side of the equation. Just keep in mind that you will undoubtedly find delays in your path if you find yourself on those routes from 9am Thursday until about 3:30pm that afternoon.
