If you commute regularly to Kalamazoo for work, school, or other purposes or just plan to be there over the next several months, the Michigan Department of Transportation has issued a heads up regarding a major resurfacing project getting underway next Monday on the US-131 Business Route.

MDOT tells us that the nearly $2-million project starts Monday, August 17th and will likely run through Friday, October 9th if all goes according to plan.

The department will be resurfacing 4.5 miles of US-131 BR from Dunkley Street to US-131. The $1.9 million investment includes asphalt resurfacing, concrete repairs, shoulder work, and pavement markings.

Authorities say the project is designed to improve the ride quality and safety for drivers, as well as extending the life of the roadway.
