Michigan Judge Halts State’s Ban on Flavored Vaping Liquids

The Washington Post and the Detroit News are both reporting today that Michigan Court of Claims Judge Cynthia Stephens has issued a preliminary injunction halting the State of Michigan’s new rules that make e-cigarette vaping using flavored liquids illegal.

Both media outlets say that the judge has blocked the ban, “citing evidence that adults could return to smoking more harmful tobacco products.”

Michigan’s new rules essentially prohibit the sale of flavored juices containing nicotine for vaping products.

Judge Stephens told the Post and the News that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration’s delay in implementing the prohibition “undercut its position that emergency rules were justified.”

Stay tuned for more on the ruling and its impact in the court of public opinion and beyond.
