Part of I-196BL to Get Repairs

Business entities along the I-196 Business Loop in South Haven are bracing for road work out front that will create a few traffic headaches for about 7-weeks beginning next Monday, April 25th. The Michigan Department of Transportation will be investing nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to repair concrete along a 1.7-mile stretch of the Business Loop to improve the road conditions there.

MDOT spokesman Nick Schirripa says the $700,000 repair job will fix concrete sections on LeGrange, Broadway and Phoenix Streets from Aylworth Avenue to Blue Star Highway in a project that will run from Monday, April 25th through Friday, June 10th. That construction job will also involve occasional night time work according to Schirripa.

One lane of the I-196 Business Loop will remain open in each direction throughout the 7-week project. The area in question is shown on the map included with this story by the green and white hashmark highlights.

Coming in less than a month South Haven area businesses and motorists will also face single-lane closures on a stretch of M-43 from Blue Star Highway to 64th Street in Bangor Township. The project is slated to run from May 12th through the 28th, and will involve flag-teams controlling the route for work crews performing crack filling.

The projects are part of MDOT's growing list of summertime repair projects across the state.
