U.S. Army Corps Wants Your Best Pics in New Photo Contest

If you enjoy a little recognition and notoriety for your shots of Great Lakes piers, locks, shipping canals and the like, you might want to act quickly and get them sent off to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Detroit Office of the Army Corps is asking the public for photo entries in their photo contest which begins today and ends on Sunday night.

The U.S. Army Corps is hoping you will share photos you have taken during visits to the Soo Locks, the Duluth Ship Canal or from a Corps pier, breakwater or federal harbor on the Great Lakes. The Corps invites the public to enter their best pictures in the new photo contest now underway. They will accept digital photo submissions by email through June 10 at 11:59 p.m.

Photos will be uploaded to an album on Facebook on Monday, June 11th at which time the Corps will open them up for public voting through “likes” until June 25th.  The top 12 photographers will have their photos included in a 2019 downloadable calendar and first, second and third place photographers will receive a plaque with their winning photo, provided by the Soo Locks Visitors Center Association and Lake Superior Marine Museum Association.

Photographers must be at least 18 years old to participate and photos should highlight U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects, including piers, break waters or facilities on the Great Lakes. Photos containing nudity or unsafe or illegal acts will be disqualified. Professional photographers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees and board members of the SLVCA and LSMMA are not eligible to participate.
